Gun Control Reducing Suicide

alal al-khatib wrote an article about the study of owning a gun increasing the number of suicide, the article goes by the name "Would Gun Control Reduce Suicides?"(February 27,2013); Discovery News. The writer reports the rates on how individuals who posses a gun will most likely harm themselves with that gun, giving the individual a higher chance of suicide. The sense of owning a gun already, gives the user an easy access to kill and harm.

Analysis; The author first introduces the fact that owning a gun  has resulted in high mass shootings and death rates. In order to support his statement, the author then adds statistics to show the amount of  gun violence in the previous year. The entire article consist of statistics to prove to the audience the harm guns have to offer. Then, the author portrays the methods of how some individuals "suicide" themselves, giving the reader a better understanding of how this can be done. Individuals who own a gun, have a gun at home, or have bought a gun, is mentioned and how these individuals are just simply exposed to a gun, they are immediately in danger in using the weapon on themselves; the author does this to reach to an audience that can relate to gun violence, and owning a gun. He aims to provide a message on the dangers of guns and to reach out to the media the message of improving Gun control. To do this, he mention's that when physiological ill veterans come back, they tend to end their lives easily with a gun because they posses one. Finally, he ends the article with a power quote; "Just slowing down gun access by a few minutes may be enough to stop the impulse.", to end his claim on how to reduce gun violence.

  1. Summary was very insightful along with the analysis of the article. It provided great examples of the methods used within the article. The analysis also provided the authors position with well support. Don't forget your citation.

Too many grammatical mistakes are made in the summary and analysis that distract from what the text is saying, this severely weakens the message you are trying to make, and even hurts your credibility. Notable examples include "they are immediately in danger in using the weapon on themselves" and "some individuals "suicide" themselves", these type of mistakes could be easily avoided by reading your finished text out loud. Later toward the end of your analysis you analyze well the argument that the author is making, but you failed to go more in depth about the quote you provided, you should look further analyze any quotes that you use. Aside from these faults it is a well developed blog.
